Brief first impressions of my shiny new Samsung LE32R87DB 32" LCD HDTV:
The TV is in a sort of 2001 obelisk shiny shiny jettest of jet blacks plastic that looks (IMHO) loooovely but attracts fingerprints, dust, filth and bodily fluids like nothing else on earth. On the upside everything else in the flat is clean as all the dirt migrates onto the sides of the telly.
It arrived in a not-too-big and not-too-heavy box (remarkably intact - CityLink having a day off parcel football?) securely packed enough to give me the glow of helping to drown pacific islanders with my burgenoning carbon footprint.
Instant DVB pickup from my weaker-than-weak aerial.
The plusses...
Excellent High-Def picture (from my 360)
Fantastic VGA picture from PC at native WXGA resolution
Strong DVB reception
Good sound (though I only use this for DVB)
Very bright picture (dynamic), clear (standard) and a movie mode that looks ace for DVDs
Gobsmacking array of inputs (many more than I have devices for - MUST BE RECTIFIED)
The minuses...
Picture-in-Picture will only display SCART (Ext) inputs which is w**k as the whole point of it was to get rid of my freeview and move my 360 to HD inputs so I have no SCART devices! Even DVB (let alone ANY INPUT!) would be good.
Low def TV and DVDs (when not viewed in movie mode) can look a bit digi-rific if you know what I mean - I've seen this on many other LCD TVs for low def normal TV. I think I probably need to look up the best settings for the myriad of scary sounding picture options in the menu - all of which are set by default smack bang in the middle.
Oh and of course I shouldn't have bought it as I can't afford it.
Anyway - there you go.
Would I recommend it: Yes.
Cheers,
Dave.
